: We are house-sitting and accidently dropped warm apple pie on leather sofa[very high end].
: How do you pull up fruity-grease spots from such fine furniture?
: Also, we've noticed a darkening, over time, of the leather on the arm and headrest areas. Is there an economical, easy way to freshen these areas? What do you recommend? Thank you for your guidance.

Dear Joy,

There is a big misconception regarding the cleaning of leather furniture. Under no circumsatnces should you attempt to clean your leather furniture using any of the so-called "leather cleaners". The best thing to do is use SOAP & WATER ONLY as soon as possible. This is because the lacquer that coats leather upholstery may be damaged by certain cleaning agents and may result in worsening the situation. In your case, unfortunately the acid from the apple has already caused this damage (the spilt apple pie should have been cleaned up immediately)and your only option now is to conatct a local leather cleaning specialist to repair the damaged area. These professionals are able to reverse the damage by altering and re-coating the leather for future protection - often making it as good as new!
